
Continental Airlines Inc. Is laying off 150 ground employees, including bag handlers, at 7 U.S.
Airfields and hiring contractors in their place.The Houston-based carrier announced late last week the sackings would become effective on June one in Prudence , R.I. ; Greensboro, N.C. ; Richmond and Norfolk, Va. ; Pensacola, Fla. ; St. Louis and Kansas Town .
The nation's fourth biggest airline decided after inspecting whether to use contractors for certain ground roles where it operates only regional service.
In February , Continental expounded it was laying off six hundred reservation agents as travelers keep on employing the Net more to order and manage their flights. That represented the second round of layoffs in under a year among the airline staff who help travelers make flight agreements through phone. Last May, Continental cut five hundred reservation agent positions and closed its Tampa, Fla, call center.
