Kohl's expounded on Wed. that it opened 9 new stores, making more than 1,500 roles.The stores rolled out in Maryland, Mississippi, Long Island, Oregon and Pennsylvania, with plans to open a total of roughly thirty new stores by the end of the year.
This comes as other shops continue to shutter stores and lay off staff. Last week, Seals stated that it would close twenty-one stores and eliminate about one thousand positions.Of the stores closing, 8 will be Seals shops and the other twelve will be Kmart stores. The closings are expected to be finished by May nine.
Sears already closed twenty-seven stores during quarter four and 62 stores in total in 2009. Earlier in the year, Macy's , Home Depot ( D ), Wal-Mart ( WMT ) and Borders ( BGP ) also exposed plans to close stores and cut roles.
