As a previous employee who managed to get tenured in 3 years when the majority took 8, who switched fields in mid life and faced young supervisors, I will say that despite my great reviews, I'd have preferred that they weren't done. What I'd like is a group review done by supervisors as well as peers. That will sound far more nerve wracking than a single review but I'm aware that things have changed and perhaps times haven't modified all that much. These are my reasons for a group review of job performance.
One, a group review implies that you too will be permitted to study your peers. 2 , a group review will give you deeper understanding of your strengths and your defects. 3 , you can feel more in contact with your team and deal more effectively with your supervisor's review.
My opinion is that it may appear jaded but I've known examples when peers go behind your back and tear you down to your supervisor. If those folks are given the chance to tell you in writing, they can become more profitable and helpful in their own performance. And, when you have the chance to be as open and truthful with your peers, you can return the favour.
Group reviews will frequently inspire discontented peers to be particular regarding their expectancies from another peer.Since they're on the job and know what they are expecting, you'll have a deeper comprehension of what you may not have realized were your strengths and you could be stunned at what your peers think about your weaknesses. Understanding what your group has identified as your strengths and your weaknesses, you'll be better in a position to manage yourself with your supervisor's analysis particularly if you must decide to challenge his review. Worker performances are not some casual bureaucracy but heavy matters that can cost your job.I'm giving a rather more complicated structure to worker performance reviews knowing full well that most companies do not have the time or the money to go thru with such reviews. And, after debating the undeniable fact that most workers can get fired even after a successful review, that they be annulled.
