Payroll processing organization ADP registered a larger-than-anticipated rise in private-sector service Wednesday, but another report showed intended layoffs rose stridently in Feb. ADP asserted private firms added 217,000 jobs in Feb, compared with an upwardly modified increase of 189,000 jobs in Jan.
Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had anticipated an increase of 165,000 jobs within the month. But outplacement consulting organization Challenger, Gray & Christmas asserted that employers declared plan to cut 50,702 jobs in February, up 32% over Jan. That's also 20 percent higher than the 42,090 intended layoffs declared in Feb 2010.
The ADP report betokens well for Friday's quarterly payrolls report from the Labor Department, based on ADP spokesman Joel Prakken, who is also chairman of Macroeconomic Advisers.
"This may be the third month in a row where the report has recommended strong development," asserted Prakken, adding that the drift sends an "unequivocal signal" that private sector employment is picking up.
Prakken said ADP's information is not impacted by bad weather, which most of the economists blame for the much weaker-than-anticipated rise of 36,000 jobs in January's Labor Department report.
