Japan's industrial production slid a seasonally altered 0.9 percent in February for the 1st decline in a year, while massive job losses continued, the governing body announced Tues.Business production stood at 91.3 in Feb against the base of a hundred for 2005, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry related in an initial report. The decline was due mainly to declines in major industries, including high tech and automobile producing.

The average market prediction was a 0.4-per-cent decline in a Kyodo News survey. Output lifted 31.3 % compared with the same month a year ago when Japan, like lots of other economies, was wrestling among the worldwide monetary crisis. The ministry stated that it predicted the fall to be non-permanent, and projected that output would rebound by 1.4 % in March, however it was predicted to slide once more by 0.1 % in Apr. The index of economic cargos dropped 0.2 % to 92.7 and business inventories were up one % to 95.5, the ministry claimed.

But the social welfare services and medical sector added 420,000 employee for a total of 6.59 million, the largest increase since July 2004, the ministry added. The country's average monthly household spending slid 0.5 % in Feb from the same month in 2009 to 261,163 yen ( 2,823.38 greenbacks ), the 1st decline in 7 months, the ministry recounted in an initial report. The cutback was seen although the average monthly earnings of waged homes rose 1.3 percent to 464,866 yen for its first rise in 7 months, the ministry asserted.
