Dell’s Raheen plant adds 50 new high tech jobs

PC giant Dell is to form 50 hi-tech positions at its plant in Raheen. In a positive day for the town, Limerick local Aongus Hegarty, Dell's VP for SME businesses has pronounced the Texas-based PC giant which let go 1,900 producing staff last year is once more inducting, with a hundred new positions to be made half in Limerick and half in Dublin.

And this number could grow much more over the following few months as Dell's cash grew in quarter four last year.  "There are at the current time a number of vacancies on site. The available roles are various and cross a variety of consultant functions that are at present based primarily on the Limerick site. "A selection of different qualifications and ability types are required to fill the higher end technical and engineering roles. "Dell in Limerick is a worldwide strategic heart for operations, services and a selection of support services in areas like legal affairs, finance, admin support and marketing, " a speaker for Dell related this Tues.

The news was warmly welcomed by the IDA's Boss Barry O'Leary, who said : "Dell is much maligned in this area, and indeed what occurred here was devastating to the Mid-West economy. But this just shows there remain a number of firms still investing.

"Regardless of the fact Dell shed 1,900 roles in Limerick last year as it tried to move its EU producing base to the Polish town of Lodz, it is still one of the biggest companies in the area, with more than one thousand folks employed in service and support. The PC giant set up shop here at the beginning of the 1990s, and at its top in the Celtic Tiger, it employed more than five thousand folk. That figure is now 1,050 folk in high price positions.

Some of the 1,900 Dell staff let go have been able to take advantage of the Western european Globalisation Fund, a continent-wide scheme engineered to enable a return to education, job search or entrepreneurial help. The Dell Redundant Employees organisation, set up in the trail of the PC giant's devastating statement in Jan 2009, has been supervising the outflow of this fund.
