New media roles might be made in the charities sector as Oxfam looks to take a position in digital services. The world NGO announced the web provides it with a chance to broaden its communications reply to major emergencies.Social media particularly has proved a good tool during catastrophes eg the Haiti quake.

Oxfam's senior digital press offer in the United King dom, Andrew Coombes, asserted the charity was ready to use Twitter, Facebook and other sides to lift its fund-raising efforts.

"Digital services allowed our employees in Haiti to react more successfully, quicker and with larger transparency, " he said. Mr Coombes announced the organisation is thus committed to making an investment in "new and refined " digital services in the future.

This is going to be good news for those looking for digital media roles, especially if other charities move in the same direction. Oxfam was set up in 1942 as the Oxford Council for Famine Relief. Today there are fourteen member organisations of Oxfam Global around the planet.
