The economy has been troublesome on lots of you, but there's another side effect that makes it more tricky for you and also your families : drug and alcohol use is rising for young East Tennesseans.We chatted with the Urban Drug Commission about how it's possible for you to keep your family safe.The economy has been hard on East Tennesseans. The Bureau of Work statistics indicate as of Feb , the jobless rate in Knoxville is at 9.3%, the state is at 10.7 percent.

As more youngsters find themselves out of work, they turn to drugs and alcohol.

"It leads to clinical anxiety. Because they are searching for roles, they are not getting calls back for interviews, they are not getting the roles after an interview. So we are seeing some psychological well-being disturbances as a result, " asserts Stephanie Armbrister-Strutner, with the Urban Drug Commission.

She is saying as more people find themselves without a job, drugs and alcohol are being used to disguise their feelings. "We see people start to self-medicate their feelings of depression and turn to alcohol or drugs, particularly occasionally prescription drugs. " She announces this is a threatening road to start down. "Prescribed medicine abuse can cause serious negative health outcomes and can cause death by way of overdose.

"Rather than turning to drugs and alcohol, Armbrister-Strutner claims there are strategies in our community to battle feelings of depression. "As well as attempting to find work they can start an exercising plan or volunteer.

"If you believe somebody has turned to drugs and alcohol, seek pro help right away. "If someone locally has an obsession problem and doesn't know what to do, they can call us and we are able to help refer them to therapy facility that'll be acceptable for their needs, " asserts Armbrister-Strutner.
