British Reserve – Life changing part time Service

From education costs to medical care, life insurance to worldwide travel, Reservists have the opportunity to take benefits of many financial supports the Reserve Forces employees get no matter what your region, job or background is. Supporting Britain's Reservists and Employers or SaBRE is a campaign launched by Ministry of Defence marketing and communications.

UK consists of around 34,000 Volunteer Reservists which constitute about 25% of UK’s total defense capacity. These Reservists devote time to train and can be termed as ready-formed units to serve alongside Regular Forces if needed.  The training includes development of core transferable skills like leadership, self-confidence, co-ordination, precision, determination, perseverance and many other specialist skills like advanced communications, handling of explosives, catering, health and safety, personnel management and IT. SaBRE was launched in October 2002 with the belief that if an employer understands the role of Reservists and is aware of the skills they develop their support for their Reserve Forces employees will be that much greater.

There are many organizations which recruit Reservists as the skills of Reservist employees are brought to the workplace which is an added asset to the organization. The Reservist job has many financial benefits like health insurance or medical care, life insurance which is paid by your employer, educational fees for dependent children, accommodation provided by your employer, cost for care of a pet, dependent relative or a child, and other benefits provided by your employer.

If the civilian pay of the Reservist is higher than the Service pay, then the difference can be claimed by the Reservist. The amount that you can claim is completely independent of your Service rank; however, there is a cap of £548 per day or around £200,000 a year. The Reservist can also claim a flat-rate car allowance of £10.70 per day roughly £325 per month. The cap is £822 per day or around £300,000 a year, if you are serving as a Medical Consultant with the Defence Medical Services. There are also other financial supports, pension and compensation benefits that are available to the Reservist.

The training by SaBRE provides a great experience in dealing with diverse range of people from all ranks, cultures and nationalities. As there are numerous benefits of this training, Reservists are valued in many organizations and they gain an upper hand amongst the other employees. Thus, Reservists are considered as an advantage for society as well as the business. So, as the motto of SaBRE states – We’re all stronger with Reservists, make UK stronger. Serve the country and the country will serve you in a better way.
